The Actress Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the nation.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says the Actress

Speaking with media, she commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, celebrities do not make a difference at all on electoral choices.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has previously been open about backing right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and revealing she realized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was emphasized by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years feels different,” commented Lawrence about Trump’s presidency. “Since he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. At a press conference for the movie in the film festival, the star spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Wider Issues

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

Lawrence aimed to shift outrage about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she remarked, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to avoid specific industry bodies.

Personal Connections

Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her performance in the new film. While the director has rejected the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, she revealed that she connected with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after filming concluded.

“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she commented, “imagining every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Career Moments

The actor also discussed about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.

“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
