Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.
The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.
The former West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
