New England Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs during the current campaign
New England equaled their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory extends the New England's lead at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a short rushing score to cap the Jets' first possession
But the home team fought back in the second period as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields connected with Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
