It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This signifies the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the filming timeline:

1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
