Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Wins Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to drive for a possible winning score. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach commented after the contest.
