The families of teens missing after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are facing an painful wait for answers and pleading for information about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified images depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Authorities have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the victims of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and wounded another scores more. Authorities noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process still underway to identify the final individuals.

In the interim, loved ones have been using social media to request information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.
