Caelan Doris Included in Ireland Selection While McCarthy Omitted

Returning head coach the Ireland coach has included captain Caelan Doris in his Ireland roster for the fall matches, however Joe McCarthy misses out.

Doris, absent from play since undergoing a shoulder operation in the start of May, has come back to provincial training, with doubts lingering if he will be ready to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.

Lock McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the first Lions match against the Wallabies in the summer.

Northern province player Izuchukwu and Munster winger Calvin Nash also miss out because of fitness concerns, and full-back Hugo Keenan had already been ruled out after having a hip operation after the summer tour.

Leinster prop Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole new player in the 34-man squad, however Irish rugby authorities states uncapped Munster pair Edwin Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped western province winger Bolton will travel to Chicago as "backup".

After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a repeat of their previous encounter, the team host Japan, Australia and world champions South Africa in Dublin.

"It's an exciting group to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to the Lelos and Portugal," said the coach, back to national team duties after a break to lead the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.

In a largely familiar-looking squad, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will once again vie for the starting number 10 spot. The number 10 jersey is remains available, with the two players poised to play against each other for the first time in Saturday's URC game at the Dublin venue.

Frawley is the third number 10 selected as the coach deciding not to selecting Leinster's Byrne.

At number 9, the Ireland boss has picked Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained the national side to the summer international victories over Georgia and the Lobos. There is also a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, chosen to teammate Ben Murphy.

Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey represent an experienced cohort of midfield choices. Jamie Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, but the 23-year-old is additionally a frontrunner to cover for the full-back at full-back.

Outside backs Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are named. O'Brien shone on his national team debut during the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and the Lobos.

Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland forwards. The loose-head prop has been in a couple of his province's URC United Rugby Championship games this season and featured in the second string's loss by England in the English city earlier this year.

McCarthy was included in interim boss O'Connell's summer squad, but did not earn a cap.

Munster second row Thomas Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those matches, is kept in the squad, and experienced Ulster second row Henderson is back after sitting out the summer matches.

Conan, who started all three Lions matches during the tour, is poised to cover for the captain should the skipper fails to recover fitness in time to face New Zealand.

The Ireland squad will meet in Dublin on the start of the week before traveling to the US on Tuesday.
