Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
